It is a very simple but a very popular upkari, a side dish.
WHAT YOU NEED:
Cabbage chopped 4 cups
Coconut grated , handful
Green chillies 2
Red chilly 2( broken)
Mustard 1 tsp
Udad dal 2 tsp
Turmeric a little (optional)
Salt
HOW TO MAKE:
Wash cabbage and cut finely.
Heat 1 tsp oin in kadahi. When it is hot put mustard seeds.
Add udad dal and fry till golden brown. Add red chilly, slit green chillies and saute.
Add cabbage, coconut, turmeric, salt and very little water. Cover the lid and allow it to cook, till it is done.
Do not over cook the cabbage.

This simple stuff has its own place in the Amchis food hierarchy.some make it with added turmeric powder like we in the north kanara regions.
